Thank you! The whole ombre effect (which is a little darker than normal in this picture) originally started off unintentionally because I was too cheap to get my highlights fixed. But now I just look like I’m cool and trendy so I’m keeping it that way for the time being.

My #1 Style Crush and Imaginary Celebrity BFF Lauren Conrad is writing a beauty book. Similar to Lauren Conrad Style (which you might remember, I bought and went to the signing of, where Lauren complimented my favorite H&M scarf) she’ll share her beauty tips, secrets and how she remains so fabulous.
Let’s be honest. This thing hasn’t even been published yet and it’s already on my mental wishlist of books I don’t really need but really want.

PREP TALK READERS

I’m on a major productivity sweep this afternoon and stockpiling ideas for future columns. What would you like to read about?

idealistically replied to your photo: So this happened today after a conversation about…

Whoa, you had never had red lipstick?! Crazy! I love the new Kate Spade lipsticks - they feel really moisturizing, and sometimes lipstick can feel a little too caked on if the formula isn’t just right.

So crazy right?! To be quite honest, I always thought that it was “too much” for me and I would look ridiculous. But I’m 25, finally in a good place mentally and ready to step out of the “post grad” phase of my life and into the “adult” phase. Today was the first day I wore it and everyone was right! It felt really light and I’m surprised how moisturized my lips feel.

So this happened today after a conversation about “you know you’re a grown up when…” milestones. I’m kind of sort of really excited by it.

NEED this new @Maybelline lip balm launching in October.
maybelline:

If there’s one thing I can’t live without, it’s a great lip balm.  I’m officially obsessed with Baby Lips Repairing Lip Balm. It makes my lips super-soft and smooth. And I love the bright, cheery packaging! PS - it’s only $3.99. Available in October.

I am in love with this adorable packaging and can’t wait to try out Baby Lips when it hits shelves next month!!

Hello, my name is Lauren and I am a skincare junkie. I live for anything that will improve my appearance and can spend hours in a drugstore. So when the nice people over at YBF Skincare sent me some products earlier this summer to try out, I couldn’t say no!
Started in 2006 by two best friends, Darrell and Kimberley, YBF (which stands for Your Best Face) is all about creating products that look great and if you couldn’t tell from the packaging, (which I love because it says exactly what each product does!) are simply no muss, no fuss. Just how I like my skincare!
Although they sent me a number of products, I thought the best thing to do was tell you about the ones that have found their way into my daily routine and are keeping my skin looking good.
Balance: Just like the name says, this moisturizer works really hard and keeping my skin tone looking balanced and smooth. At this point in time, my use of anti-aging products is …anticipatory… but I’ve definitely noticed a big change in the natural redness of my skin tone and in the month I’ve been using it, I’ve definitely noticed an effect on my sunspots.
Prep: I love using masks and this one definitely delivers! I use this a couple of times a week right before bed and am continually impressed by how much brighter my skin tone looks afterwards. It exfoliates without too harsh and between the size of the jar and the fact that I only use a thin layer, this will last me a while.
Correct: Although my friends and family will beg to differ and think I’m a nut, my insomniac tendencies often tend to leave me with slight dark circles and puffy eyes in the morning. The thing that I really like about Correct is that it reinvigorates the skin around my eyes without leaving them feeling goopy or covered in product.
Quench: My new go-to pre bed lip product. I get chapped lips YEAR ROUND and it is so painful. I can’t get enough of Quench. It leaves my lips feeling really soft and hydrated and they still feel smooth in the morning.
Boost: Although this is technically a moisturizer, I prefer to use it as more of a spot treatment. Since it clarifies and discourages blemishes, I just prefer to use it directly in conjunction with Balance.
P.S. YBF sent me the products for editorial consideration, but the opinions are all my own.

If someone wanted to recreate the makeup look at home, what tips would you give them? “For the everyday J.Crew girl, there are just three simple three steps. For your face, keep the makeup not too heavy and don’t wear too much overall. For myself, I don’t cake on a lot of foundation. And with bronzer I keep it light with maybe just a little light cheek powder. Then, to keep it fresh looking, if you put a boldly colored lip on, just add mascara. That’s it. Don’t do the bold eye at the same time. Or just emphasis your eye.”
Want a quick lunch break read this afternoon? Then I highly recommend checking out Refinery29’s interview with Marissa Webb of J.Crew on how to get that perfectly understated J. Crew beauty look.
